![]() I actually think the main people impacted by this rendering open software stuff is paid renderers like Vray and Redshift. EEVEE alone is a revolution for 3D artists due to how much you can previz renders ![]() Constant updates that not only do things fast but add new features that either don’t exist or only recently got added to the industry. Blender’s development team is one of its best assets. That said I actually think this won’t hurt Blender that much becauseġ: Blender is an all in one suite for everything 3D and the main alternative, Maya, is so crap that most people are already looking for better alternativesĢ: Cycles is a pretty darn good Renderer out of the box that one, runs on GPU (which Renderman doesn’t do about Moonray) instead of needing a farm and second, don’t need a giant army of TD’s for troubleshooting issues relating to rendering and shadingģ. Releasing these softwares for free or non-commercial use is precisely so that more people learn them for these companies to hire without needing to train them as much and to essentially induce competition and increase supply of people who will apply for these jobs. But the release of the big studio engines is definetely not a act of human kind. See the installation.txt file for detailed instructions. Installing To use, install RenderMan, (free from ), download the latest release and put it in the addons folder for Blender. Since Moonray, (not sure about Renderman) and Blender are open source, what I see coming is that Blender implements features and tools from the bigger engines, making Blender even more hardcore to beat. RenderMan for Blender is a render engine addon written for the 3D creation suite Blender. While Blender is well established, is free, comes with insane features, etc. No one knows their interface, how to use it, there are basically 0 tutorials, courses or ressources out there for it. Here are my thoughts about it: No one will care TOO much about Pixars and Dreamworks engines. So im curious about peoples thoughts, that are using Blender already. As more and more people decide to go to Blender, because the alternatives are often expensive, lacking features or ressources. So other people think that they release their engines, to get new people into it. (But lets be real, companies like these dont care about helping the community). Some people see it as a big progress in the 3D Artist world, and a great "human kind" offer. Some of you probably already heard, Pixar released their render engine called Renderman, and Dreamworks announced that they plan to release Moonray open source.ĪKA the engines that are being used to make all the modern 3D Movies.
